On October 23 (local time), Apple released the latest developer beta versions of its major operating systems, including iOS 18.2, iPadOS 18.2, and macOS Sequoia 15.2. In this version of iOS, you can try out many of the “Apple Intelligence” features announced at WWDC, including ChatGPT integration, Genmoji, Image Playground, Image Wand, and Visual Intelligence.

ChatGPT Integration

When you first install the beta, you’ll be asked to enable ChatGPT integration, and if you do, you’ll be asked if you want to use ChatGPT again when asking Siri a question.

Once enabled, for example, if you ask Siri to plan your day’s activities while traveling, you will be asked if you want to hand it over to ChatGPT.

You don’t need a ChatGPT account to use this feature, but if you do have one, logging in to ChatGPT will allow for more consistent access.

If you use ChatGPT without logging in, requests sent to ChatGPT via Siri will not be used to train the model.

New features related to AI image generation (Genmoji, Image Playground, Image Wand)

Genmoji is an AI-powered emoji image generator that offers several options based on user prompts and can send the resulting image as a sticker. It can also create emoji images based on faces in the People section of Photos.

Genmoji

Image Playground is a simple image generation tool. It presents concepts you can choose from to start the process, or you can enter a description of the type of image you want. Similar to Genmoji, it can use people from a photo to generate images based on them, or it can use individual images from a photo to generate related images.

Image Playground

Image Wand is a new feature added to the Apple Pencil tool palette. By drawing a rough sketch with Apple Pencil and selecting it with Image Wand, the generative AI will convert it into a more complete image.

Visual Intelligence on iPhone 16

On the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Pro, you’ll also be able to try out “Visual Intelligence,” a feature similar to Google’s Google Lens that looks up information about what the camera is currently looking at, as well as translate text, scan QR codes, read text aloud, and optionally use ChatGPT or Google Search to find more information about what you’re looking at.

Visual Intelligence

To enable it, press and hold the camera control button to launch Visual Intelligence, then point the camera and press the button again.
