When it comes to cameras, which is better, the iPhone 16 or the iPhone 16 Pro? Personally, I would go for the 16 Pro because it has a 5x telephoto camera and the ultra-wide-angle and Fusion cameras have slightly improved performance, but apart from the presence or absence of a telephoto camera, the difference has narrowed . At the very least, with the addition of the macro mode, I think the difference in usability is disappearing.
So, this is the second part of an article trying out both cameras. This time, we’ll check out how they handle portraits and videos.
On the left is the iPhone 16 Plus, and on the right is the iPhone 16 Pro.

Now let’s compare the images taken with the Fusion camera. However, the images are comparable, so there’s nothing special to say.

When you find a person (or animal), an “f” icon will appear in the bottom left.

Tapping it will switch to portrait mode. “f” stands for the “F-number” of the lens, and the smaller the number, the shallower the depth of field (the narrower the range in focus) and the greater the bokeh. This is a nice feature from the iPhone 15.
Camera app screen. This is how you take a picture of a person on the iPhone 16. It’s nice that you don’t have to use portrait mode.
So, if you take a picture with the “f” displayed, you can later use it as portrait mode in the photo app, which is convenient. By the way, the “f” icon also appears when you tap the screen to specify the subject you want to take a picture of, so I’ve stopped using the independent portrait mode.
The iPhone 16 Pro’s face is brighter, but that’s not always the case, so it’s a bit subtle. The bokeh is also a bit different (the depth of field was left at the default setting).

Plus, the iPhone 16 Pro can take 5x telephoto portraits, which is nice, and the background is nicely cut out.
People want to take pictures with a little telephoto, so I think they use 5x.
I’ll also include an indoor version.
