On June 10 (local time), Apple announced a new feature called “Genmoji” (pronounced “Genmoji”) that generates original emojis with the new AI personal assistant “Apple Intelligence” at the keynote speech of WWDC 2024. It will be available in “Messages” on a series of Apple’s OS scheduled to be released this fall.

Just enter text such as “DJ squirrel” or “T-Rex wearing a tutu on a surfboard” into the emoji search box in Messages, and Apple Intelligence will generate an emoji.

You can also generate a Genmoji that resembles a person based on a photo of the person you select from “Photos.” You can also add a description and improve it while viewing the preview. The generated Genmoji can be added to a message or used as a reaction with Tapback.

The emojis that are presented will likely be combinations of existing emojis. Google also offers ” Emoji Kitchen ” for Android, which allows users to combine emojis to create new ones, but the emojis that can be combined are limited.

On the same day, Apple also announced support for RCS in iOS 18 , but it is still unclear whether Genmoji can be displayed on Android devices when messaging with them.
