On November 14th (local time), Google released the iOS version of its AI assistant “Gemini app,” which has been available on Android since February. Like the Android version, it is also possible to have conversations in Japanese. It is available on iPhones and iPads with iOS 16 or later.
iPhone users have previously been able to access Gemini via the Google app, but now they can launch it directly from the app. In addition, they can use the voice chat feature “Gemini Live.” Gemini Live was made available in Japanese in October .
Once you start a conversation with Gemini Live, it will appear on your lock screen and in Dynamic Island (for iPhone 14 Pro and later), allowing you to control your interaction with the AI without having to return to the main app.

When I asked Gemini to open a map, it suggested Google Maps, and when I asked it to play music, it suggested playing YouTube Music (instead of Apple Music) (in my case. If I didn’t have YouTube Music installed but did have YouTube installed, it would have suggested YouTube).
The App Store description states that “iOS device operations (such as setting alarms or sending text messages) are not yet supported.”
The Gemini app is free. To use Gemini’s more advanced features, you need to subscribe to Gemini Advanced for 2,900 yen per month.
