Apple’s spatial computer “Apple Vision Pro” will be released in Japan on June 28. This highly anticipated product is finally coming to Japan, but many people may be hesitant to buy it because of its high price of 599,800 yen (including tax).
I went to Hawaii to buy it when it was released in the US on February 2, 2024. After using it for about four months, I would like to reconsider whether it is worth 600,000 yen.
“Apple Vision Pro” has been used since its launch in the US
Precautions when wearing Vision Pro: No problem walking around with it on
The Apple Vision Pro is generally seen as a VR or XR device, but Apple is committed to the concept of a “spatial computer.” In fact, rather than simply entering a virtual space to enjoy communication or games, it is a device that can be expected to have a wide range of uses through various applications. Rather than a single function, it would be more appropriate to call it the “next-generation Mac.”
The Apple Vision Pro is worn on the head. The band that supports the back of the head is typical of Apple, which also makes watch bands for the Apple Watch, and provides a firm hold and is comfortable to wear.
By the way, if you normally wear glasses and want to use Apple Vision Pro, you will need an optional auxiliary lens. Also, soft contact lenses are fine, but hard lenses are not supported.
When you put on the Apple Vision Pro, it’s pitch black at first, but once the OS starts up, the world in front of you suddenly becomes brighter and you can see your surroundings. Of course, the surroundings captured by the camera are displayed on the display in front of your eyes, and this is truly beautiful. It feels like you are looking at your surroundings in real life.

Windows 10 support is about to end! How can I avoid update issues?
Even if you walk around the room wearing the Apple Vision Pro, you won’t hit your feet on the corners of a desk or chair. There doesn’t seem to be any misalignment in the way you see. Also, even if you wear it for a long time and move your head, you won’t get sick. I’ve also tried the Meta “Quest 3”, and although the view was clear, I felt a slight misalignment and got sick right away.
I’m in love with the new UI. Connect it to your MacBook Pro and your work will be more efficient.
What’s amazing about using Apple Vision Pro is the operability and UI (user interface). Icons appear in front of you, and when you focus on the icon you want to launch, it responds, and then you can launch it by flicking the index finger and thumb of your right hand.
When you put it on, app icons will appear in front of you.
Flick your index finger and thumb to launch the app
Basically, you just stare at the button you want to press on the screen and tap it with your finger. This series of operations is truly futuristic, and I’m fascinated by the completely new UI.
However, of course, there are still some mistakes that occur when you are looking at an icon other than the one you want to launch and accidentally flick your finger, which launches a different app. However, as you get used to it, you will make fewer such mistakes.
In fact, one of the most common uses of Apple Vision Pro is connecting it to a MacBook Pro. When you use Apple Vision Pro to look at your MacBook Pro, the two devices can work together, and the content displayed on the MacBook Pro can appear in the space in front of you.
For example, even in places where there is no monitor, such as a small room at home, a shared office while traveling, or a workspace the size of a phone booth, with Apple Vision Pro you can display an image at nearly 40 inches and use it to send emails, look things up on the web, and create presentation materials.
Connect it to your MacBook Pro and get the job done.
I also enjoy watching movies and live sports.
Another thing I often use it for is watching movies and live sports broadcasts. By attaching the Apple Vision Pro, a large screen appears in front of my eyes, so I can enjoy the images with great impact.
Personally, I love motorsports and always watch F1, and with the Apple Vision Pro I can enjoy not only the main screen, but also channels that show on-board cameras and rankings all on one large screen.
However, DAZN, which broadcasts sports, would be better if they made their iPad app available for Apple Vision Pro, but for some reason they have not done so. Therefore, I have to connect to DAZN from a web browser to watch. I hope this inconvenience will be resolved.
VisionOS 1.2 now supports Japanese, despite limited English support
In fact, from the time I purchased it on February 2nd until June, I was not actively using Apple Vision Pro because VisionOS only supported English and only the US version of the App Store was available.
Since it was only available in English, even if I wanted to use it for work, I could only reply to emails in English, so its practicality was quite low. Therefore, I could only use it for things like “connecting to a MacBook Pro” or “watching movies and sports on a large screen.”
However, after the keynote speech at Apple’s WWDC developer event on June 10, VisionOS was updated to version 1.2, and Japanese became available. I was able to reply to emails, browse the web, and write manuscripts. With the Japanese environment in place, I was finally able to use it as a work tool.
Furthermore, the Japanese App Store opened on June 20th. This means that apps that are only available in the Japanese market can now be downloaded and enjoyed. I immediately downloaded “TVer” and have been watching the drama “Furuhata Ninzaburo” on the big screen.
The number of Japanese apps for Vision Pro is increasing
I have some complaints, but I don’t regret buying it at all.
