On November 11th (local time), Apple announced that it has added a new feature, “Share Item Location,” to the “Find” app in the public beta of “iOS 18.2.” This will allow people who do not have Apple devices to help find lost items with AirTags attached. Location information can now be shared with multiple airlines.
Users can now use the “Share Item Location” feature in the Find My app on their iPhone, iPad, or Mac to generate location-sharing links for their AirTags and Find My network accessories and share them with their contacts.

Those who receive the link will be taken to a website that will display the item’s location on a map, automatically updating as the location changes and displaying a timestamp of the most recent update.

Shared location information expires once a user finds the item, can be stopped by the owner at any time, and automatically expires after seven days. Location sharing is end-to-end encrypted and anonymized, so no one can see the device’s location or other information except the person it was shared with, including Apple.

The feature is expected to be available in the coming months on more than 15 airlines, including United Airlines and Virgin Atlantic, which will begin accepting Find My location data as part of their customer service process.
Additionally, SITA, the Swiss company behind WorldTracer, a baggage tracking system used by over 500 airlines and more than 2,800 airports worldwide, will integrate support for Share Item Location into the system.
The official version of iOS 18.2 is expected to be released in December.
